BIOGRAPHY
Rachel Walker has performed extensively throughout Scotland and further afield, both as a solo artist and with bands such as Cruinn and Skipinnish.
She has recorded four solo albums and added her distinctive vocals to many other releases.
In 2013 she was voted Gaelic Singer of the Year at the Trad Awards and was also nominated in the Composer of the Year category in 2015.
As a composer and song-writer, she has been commissioned by organisations such as Scotland Sings, SNH, ColmCille 1500 and Fèisean nan Gàidheal and her work has been showcased at festivals such as the Royal National Mòd and Celtic Connections.
Rachel has extensive experience working with Gaelic choirs, creating bespoke choral arrangements for competitions and events. She has also won the An Comunn Gàidhealach Gold Medal for solo Gaelic singing.
Rachel works as a lecturer of music at West Highland College UHI, where she is the course leader of the music department. She is also the Gaelic song tutor at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music in Plockton.
Rachel's latest album, ‘Gaol’, was released in December 2020, showcasing her song-writing and collaboration with singers, writers and musicians, such as Marcas Mac an Tuairneir, James Graham and Aaron Jones.
