BIOGRAPHY
Welcome to my page! I've been lucky enough to make music my living since August 1997 touring the World and recording/performing with some incredible musical friends. Known primarily as an accompanist and singer, my two main projects currently are my duo with the brilliant Gaelic Singer/pianist Rachel Walker and my work with the legendary two-time ‘Folk Band of the Year’ winners and 2020 'Hall of Fame' Inductees Old Blind Dogs.
I continue to travel the World as an accompanist - check out my latest news/tour dates section to see what I'm up to currently - and have toured worldwide and recorded with many of the biggest names in traditional music including Kate Rusby, Téada (with Séamus Begley), Battlefield Band, Tannahill Weavers, Siobhan Miller, Emily Smith, Robyn Stapleton and many, many more...
As well as appearing on over 100 traditional album recordings I have also produced several critically acclaimed albums and contribute to music for TV for the Emmy nomnated TV and Fiolm composer Ruth Barrett. Projects including three series of ‘Sanditon’ by Jane Austen for ITV/PBS, BBC drama ‘Bloodlands’ featuring James Nesbitt, ‘Law and Order: Organised Crime’ for NBC, Apple TV's 'Big Beasts' with Tom Huddlestone, 'The Decameron' for Netflix and the Amazon TV hit drama ‘The Terminal List’ starring Chris Pratt.
I was an official accompanist for the BBC Young Traditional Scottish Musician of the Year Awards for ten years and was voted 'Instrumentalist of the Year' in a public vote at the 2005 Scots Trad Music Awards. I am a proud Dad of three amazing kids, a passionate and active member of the UK Musicians Union, a keen amateur cook and perpetually disappointed supporter of Everton Football Club.
And just as an aside, I am available as an accompanist/backing vocalist for your albums or tours and/or I can add parts to your recordings from my home studio. Contact me by clicking here.
